Leatherman Mini Tool

The Minitool was Leatherman’s second multitool, and was produced for 18 years between 1996 and 2004, making it the longest surviving tool in the Leatherman range, after the PST (1983-2004). The Mini featured handle “extensions” which allowed the tool to fold down to 2.5″ when closed, whilst offering full size pliers comparable to the PST’s 4″ handles.

The handle extensions however, left little space for tools, and the Mini has only a small clip point blade, bottle opener, can opener and small file/driver. It was 10 years before Leatherman added their next “keychain” tool, the Micra.

The Minitool was available in Stainless Steel finish in addition to BO (Black Oxide).

Do you have any idea how many of the black oxide mini’s were made? I have a few of the regular ones in my collection but I can’t seem to get my hands on a black one.

    Big fan of the mini.

I have no real idea how many, but based on the numbers I’ve seen there were far fewer BO Minitools made than the stainless.

Good luck with your hunting- they are out there!

Good Luck, Paul. I had a black oxide Leatherman Mini given to me when I was in the Army. Carried it in my under-seat toolbag on my mountain bike, and the zipper jiggled loose on a ride around Rampart Reservoir west of Colorado Springs. Pristine condition, and it popped out somewhere on that trail. Hope whoever found it appreciated it as much as I mourned its loss…

I have several great photos of the Mini Tool in Black Oxide, will send them to you if you want them.
This particular one in the photos I have was up for sale on Ebay summer 2012… I bid on it, I was outbid… surprisingly for $90.00 USD!
