The Buck X-Tract series of multitools is an interesting departure from the plier-based, butterfly opening styled PST clones offered by the majority of manufacturers. Resembling a folding knife more than the accepted multitool format, the X-Tracts are very capable multitools.
The Buck X-Tract 732 FIN is Identical to the X-Tract 730, except the can opener is replaced by an excellent pair of scissors.
The Buck X-Tract 731 LED is Identical to the X-Tract 730, but for the addition of an LED light on the scales.
The Buck X-Tract 730 is the basic X-Tract model, but displays all of the unique features and benfits inherent in the X-Tract design.
The Bear Jaws 155EL is the electricians’ variant of the the Bear Jaws 155L.
Manufactured by Bear & Sons (Bear MGC), the Bear Jaws 155 was introduced in 1996 and was the first “PST” styled multitool to offer external opening blades.
I recently got hold of two quite badly damaged Leatherman Blasts in trades, and fortunately the damaged / missing parts on each were different, so I decided to make one good tool from the remains…
Very recently, I started seeing pictures of various Leatherman tools that didn’t look quite right and it took me some time to put my finger on exactly what was different! It turned out that what I was looking at were variations of several Leatherman tools made specifically for Denmark, where knife laws forbid one handed (OH) opening blades.
As the Supertool is to the PST, the Surge is to the Wave. Even the name describes a super-sized Wave. Whilst most would agree that the Surge is a competent large multitool, it does seem to divide opinion somewhat….
