The Freestyle is Leatherman’s most minimal tool so far in terms of the number of functions it offers. The tool is effectively a cut-down Skeletool and according to the manual has the following features:
Features:
- 1. Needlenose Pliers
- 2. Regular Pliers
- 3. 420HC Combination Knife
- 4. Wire Cutters
- 5. Hard-wire Cutters
- 6. Removable Pocket Clip
So, basically, just a blade and pliers…………
When Leatherman first produced a prototype, the Freestyle was going to be a third variation of the Skeletool, but that has changed quite dramatically. Although the frame and general appearance of the Freestyle is very reminiscent of the Skeletool, gone are the caribener / bottle opener, and of course, the bit driver.
Whereas the standard Skeletool model has a strip of aluminium that acts as a spacer and retention device for the spare bits, the Freestyle has no bits to hold and is therefore a sizeable Zytel spacer.
The tool is obviously very light, and the pocket clip allows you to forget you are carrying it until you need it. As long as you don’t need anything more than a pair of pliers and a blade – it is just about perfect!
